This position supports academic program delivery for the welding courses by ensuring the welding lab equipment and supplies are functioning and available for use per the academic schedule.  The incumbent demonstrates appropriate use of equipment and supplies to students during welding labs and supports other lab activities to facilitate student success, while working to ensure a safe environment for students, faculty and staff.  The incumbent will also prototype new lab equipment, trainers and simulators to support development and delivery of welding courses and is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of equipment. The incumbent, in consultation with faculty, to source, inventory and ensure program consumables are available to students and faculty.  The incumbent will also oversee the CWB testing and communicate with internal and external clients regarding CWB testing process.

The main areas of focus for this position are identified as:

  • Provide learning and program delivery support and technical services to faculty and students
  • Order and inventory lab-related equipment and supplies
  • Maintain and repair applied learning and/or lab equipment
  • Facilitate CWB testing process
  • Health & Safety

Duration: Starting 2017 for either 8, 10 or 16 weeks duration (Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm)


  • Must have Certificate of Qualification in appropriate trade. Must have at least five years industry related experience as a Journeyperson in their trade
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills and a commitment to diversity and equity are essential. Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered
  • The ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential, as is the desire to contribute to the education of the next generation of apprentices
  • Candidates must also be committed to working within a team environment and to participating in a consultative decision-making process
